The Inspiration Behind B&T Pets

Meet Baron and Tessa—two extraordinary dogs who came into Tonya’s life at exactly the right time. More than companions, they were steady presences through seasons of both challenge and joy, shaping her days in ways only dogs can.

Littermates born from an uncommon mix of Great Dane and Brittany Spaniel, Baron and Tessa shared a deep bond—with each other, with Tonya, and later with Chris, whom they welcomed wholeheartedly (especially if treats were involved). Tessa was spirited and sassy, full of quiet determination. Baron was endlessly gentle and a little bit goofy, devoted to those he loved. Together, they left an imprint that will always be felt.

Between October 2022 and July 2023, both dogs crossed the rainbow bridge. Baron was first, taken by an aggressive osteosarcoma. Tessa followed months later, after living with intervertebral disc disease and severe arthritis. Their senior years were marked by increasing physical challenges and significant pain; daily injections, multiple medications, and ongoing pain management became part of everyday life.

Caring for Baron and Tessa through this stage prompted deeper reflection. As Tonya navigated what are often considered “normal” approaches to aging pets, an important question emerged: Is there another way?

During this time, she was introduced to The Forever Dog by Rodney Habib and Karen Shaw Becker. One idea in particular resonated deeply:

True longevity isn’t just about extending life at any cost—it’s about extending the years where our dogs are free to play, explore, and simply be themselves.

This philosophy reframed everything. Rather than focusing solely on lifespan, Tonya became committed to the concept of "healthspan"—the portion of a pet’s life spent truly thriving, with vitality, comfort, and quality of life. That shift in perspective became the foundation for what would eventually become B&T Pets.

The B&T Pets line was created to honour Baron and Tessa’s legacy. Each product reflects a belief in simplicity, intention, and respect for the ingredient—using minimally processed, thoughtfully sourced components designed to support long-term health and well-being.

This is more than a product line. It is a continuation of the love Baron and Tessa gave so freely, carried forward so that other pets may enjoy more years filled with movement, curiosity, and joy—including Tonya and Chris’s newest brand ambassador, Bullet.
