In this series of posts, we continue exploring the novel proteins we work with here at B&T Pets. This time, we’re putting the spotlight on Seal. At B&T Pets, our seal meat is sourced responsibly from Canadian waters, primarily from Northern Quebec, where it is harvested in accordance with strict sustainability and animal welfare standards, but a company formed by an Inuit and French-Canadian collaboration aimed at preserving cultural traditions, and reconciliation.

Let’s explore why seal is such a unique and nutrient-dense protein option, the distinctive benefits it offers, and how it can contribute to your pet’s long-term health and well-being.

In this article, we will focus on:

A Quick Review of Novel Proteins

Novel proteins are uncommon in traditional pet foods and are often used in limited-ingredient diets to help manage food sensitivities and allergies. They offer unique nutritional profiles that can contribute to your pet's overall health and well-being.

  • Unique Option: Perfect for rotational diets to avoid protein fatigue.

The Benefits of Seal for Your Pet

  • Enhances Skin and Coat: Omega-3 promotes a healthy, shiny coat.

  • Supports Heart Health: Fatty acids help maintain cardiovascular wellness.

  • Ideal for Sensitive Pets: Less likely to trigger allergies.

How to Incorporate Seal into Your Pet’s Diet

Introduce this novel protein gradually to your pet's diet. Start with small portions and observe for any reactions. Choose high-quality, natural products with minimal processing, and consider rotating with other proteins to maintain nutritional balance.

Here at B&T Pets we have many different products to allow you to incorporate seal into your pet's diet - from treats to meal toppers, and soon (fall 2025) we will have an all-natural seal oil available as well. We even have Seal Bits, which are freeze dried organ meats, including the kidney, liver, and heart, of seals. Feeding organ meats have their own unique benefits which you can read about here.

Final Thoughts

Seal is an exceptional protein source that supports long-term health, especially for pets needing nutrient-dense diets.
