A Quick Review of Novel Proteins

In pet nutrition, novel proteins refer to sources of protein that are uncommon in traditional dog and cat foods. These proteins are often featured in limited-ingredient diets to address food sensitivities and allergies. Common novel proteins include kangaroo, rabbit, and venison. The advantage of novel proteins is their reduced likelihood of triggering allergic reactions in pets that have sensitivities to more common proteins like chicken or beef.
